Don’t
Listen to Them…the Glass is Half Full
not Half Empty
We’ve
just completed the most successful month in
our company’s history…the best month
in 15 years. Last year was our best year ever…we’re
ahead of last year by over 15%...I do not say
this to brag…I say this to put the LIE
to the constant barrage of negative information
spewed by what is today’s main steam media.
Every single thing they say is negative…they
want you to believe that things are getting
worse by the minute…we are in a terrible
state…our economy is approaching depression…BULL
Sh**!!!
The
US Open recently concluded here at Torrey Pines…one
of the most financially successful and exciting
US Opens in history…record attendance
every day. Those tickets weren’t cheap
people…yet day after day, record numbers
of attendees flooded through the gates of Torrey
Pines. Look at home attendance at Major League
Baseball parks around the country…in 2007,
the average attendance was approximately 31,818…in
2008, it’s 32,767…looks like people
are still spending money to have fun and seek
entertainment.
Yes,
gas has doubled, but what does that mean for
the event industry?...well, it looks like companies
are spending their dollars locally instead of
overseas. Companies, even with the lower value
of the Dollar, are spending their money here
rather than there. I’ve had this conversation
at least a dozen times over the last two weeks…I
have yet to talk to a person in the industry
who’s business is tanking because of our
supposed terrible economy. In fact, most people
I’ve talked to are having at least as
good a year as they had last year. Is that true
for everyone, of course not. Are we experiencing
problems in the industry, of course we are…but
you know what?, a lot of people are kicking
ass and you NEVER here about those people or
those companies on the evening news.
Let’s
look at MPISCC and ISES LA…record membership,
record donations, record income, record attendance
at monthly meetings…does that sound like
a death knell to our industry to you?...of course
not…because again, it’s BULL SH**!!
Of course there are problems, but, while I don’t
think we’re awash in lemons, let’s
at least conspire to prove these freaking idiots
wrong by making lemonade out of the lemons that
do exist, and continuing to make the event industry
KICK ASS!!!
I
don’t wear rose colored glasses…my
experience, our experience is that, if you perservere,
if you look for that diamond in the rough, if
you have faith in your ability to make your
dreams happen, you’ll make them happen!
We have an incredible opportunity to prove these
negative, arrogant, pieces of garbage wrong…we
have so far…let’s continue to do
it. We are freaking Americans…we can do
whatever we set our minds to do…and Yea,
I am freaking proud to be an American and I
thank God every day that I live here, work here,
and fulfill my dreams here. And I thank God
that I work in this industry…full of the
most creative, successful, and absolutely cool
people in the entire world!
