Thank God for the SEARCH Foundation

For those of you who were at the ISES Los Angeles Installation last week, you heard me say a little something about SEARCH and it’s relevance to Party Pals. For those of you who weren’t there, I’m going to tell you a little story…

First, if you are not familiar with SEARCH, the Foundation was created in 1997 to “Support people in the special event industry with a catastrophic occurrence through fundraising, volunteer services, or donations made through industry wide alliances in collaboration with charitable organizations.” In other words, it was created to help us when we’re in trouble. Their board of directors reads like a Who’s Who in the event industry. Here’s their Mission Statement:

“The SEARCH Foundation supports event professionals in crisis who are confronted with a catastrophic occurrence.”

Now, you may be wondering what this has to do with Party Pals…why I’m spending time telling you about it. Well, SEARCH and Party Pals became familiar with each other recently. To respect the privacy of the family and SEARCH’s wish to keep specifics confidential, I will give you a general idea of our relationship. You see, one of our Party Pals family members was severely injured recently and had to be Life Flighted to the hospital. Needless to say, many tears were shed…many prayers were said…and, thank God, many prayers were answered. This person however is still recovering and will be for some time to come. Her rehabilitation will take months and she obviously won’t be able to work during that time. Her spirit and will to fight is just amazing!!!

Anyway, to be very honest, I had not even thought about SEARCH when this happened. It was an aunt of this young lady who reminded me after she had spoken with the president of the ISES San Diego Chapter, Nicole Matthews. I then contacted SEARCH on behalf of our employee and her family. I filled out the necessary forms and submitted them. SEARCH acted immediately and granted my request for help.

I can’t tell you how grateful we all are to them. The funds will help with the various expenses our employee will incur while she is rehabilitating. SEARCH did EXACTLY what their mission statement says and they did it with such professionalism, integrity, and also empathy…I cannot compliment them enough…what an INCREDIBLE organization.

If we really look at this, we can all say, “…there but for the grace of God go I.” This could happen to any one of us and for an organization like SEARCH to be there to help us…well, I just want to say a very special and heartfelt “THANKS” to SEARCH…you guys absolutely ROCK!

So please people, take the time to look them up, www.searchfoundation.org. Find out what they’re all about and SUPPORT them. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a tragedy to open our eyes to the wonderful people and organizations ready to help us when we’re down…SEARCH is definitely one of those organizations and I thank God for them.

Our family member has a long and difficult road ahead of her but she is blessed with incredible strength of will, with drive and determination and an incredible family with unceasing faith, support and love. This young woman is truly an inspiration…I wish you could meet her…she and her family would restore many people’s faith in people and their goodness. Still, she and her family need our prayers so, if you’re so inclined, pray for her recovery, for her strength, and for her family.
